Georgia State University illuminates the Georgia State Stadium blue and joins the country in recognizing frontline and essential workers amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Georgia State Panthers announce the effort on Twitter, thanking workers for their contributions.

The blue lights are familiar to the university since it’s already a tradition used to celebrate home game victories.

“Georgia State fans are used to seeing the Panthers #LightItBlue after wins,” a news release by Georgia State Athletics says. “The stadium or arena lights go out and all the screens in the venue glow bright blue creating an atmosphere to celebrate a GSU victory.”

The #LightItBlue and #MakeItBlue campaigns began in the United Kingdom and have since then expanded to skylines in the United States, including Atlanta.

Popular landmarks across the city also radiated in support.
