The University Housing at Georgia State University tells students living in residential housing that they must leave by 5 p.m. on March 13. Students unable to leave on-time must complete a form before the time and date.
Shannon Corey, the interim director of residence life at University Housing, says the decision comes from the University System of Georgia, in a statement to PRN.
“Per USG, we did share with residents that they had to depart by 5 pm tomorrow, Friday, March 13 as that is what USG decided today,” the statement says.
Corey also says the email lines up with President Becker’s earlier message. “Residents simply need to complete the request as we shared in the email to them earlier this evening,” Corey said.
John Le, the student services chair of the Student Government Association, has since then requested to extend the deadline for the departures.
After the announcement, faculty members at University Housing held a meeting discussing how to navigate the situation. Some were left in confusion, according to a housing worker.
Earlier today, the University System of Georgia announced that classes are suspended for the next two weeks.
Georgia State President Mark Becker addressed the housing situation in a message to the university community today.
“The university will continue to provide housing for residential students who are unable to leave during these two weeks. At this time, students in university housing are not being asked to move out for the remainder of the semester,” President Becker said.
